POSADA DE SAN JOSÉ RESTAURANT
Since 1983, when we opened as a simple Tapas Bar, the Posada de San José´s Restaurant has welcomed clients and friends to enjoy relaxing gatherings around it´s tables sipping a cool Sangría or with just a coffee. Following their suggestions and to further satisfy their needs and requirements, our service and variety and quality of our offer have evolved over the years. We continue our gastronomic trajectory without losing sight of our beginnings or traditions, offering homemade cuisine prepared with care and high quality produce.
While overlooking and enjoying the dramatic panorama of the Huécar River Gorge from the dining room windows, guests will appreciate a varied selection of tapas and typical regional dishes, as well as delicious salads, local cheeses, fish and meat dishes of traditional recipes or other influences with more modern touches and presentations; all accompanied by a fine selection of local and regional wines and local beers and topped with our homemade desserts. We regularly offer “off the menu” suggestions to tempt the most demanding palates.
Our Posada de San Jose Restaurant employees have been informed of food allergies and intolerances related to our menu, which is kept up to date so that clients have all the necessary information on hand. Following clients´ recommendations and suggestions, we have reinvented several of our homemade desserts so that they can be enjoyed without worry by those with allergies or intolerances.
Free WI-FI is available in the dining room and other common areas in the Posada de San José.
Opening hours are from 19:00 h. to 22:30 h. Tuesday to Saturday. 13:00 h. to 15.30 h. Saturday and Sunday. These are extended during special periods such as Easter, Christmas or National Holidays. We are closed Sunday evening and all day Monday.
If weather permits, the Posada de San José Restaurant offers a small terrace where clients can enjoy outdoor dining while, of course, taking in the view!
A cold continental buffet breakfast is offered daily in our cozy dining room overlooking the Huécar River Gorge.
Guests and visitors will appreciate perked coffee with freshly toasted farmer´s loaf with fresh grated tomato and local olive oil, homemade cakes, cookies and often jams and jellies, bakery fresh pastry such as the typical sugared lard tort, along with a selection of cereals, fruits, yogurts, cold meats, etc….to be enjoyed while gazing out over the breathtaking panorama.

Our meeting room guarantees total privacy and maximum tranquility together with the personalized attention of a charming hotel. Technical installations available include WI-FI, giant screen, digital projector and satellite TV.
To celebrate our 25th anniversary in 2008, the Posada de San José organized the “I Jornadas Gastronómicas Pintxto Donostiarra”. The success of the culinary delights offered by the Bar Borda Berri of San Sebastian, experts in Basque miniature cuisine, and the positive response of clients and friends of the Posada, encouraged us to continue the gastronomic journey throughout Spain.
The II edition in 2009, “Aire Andaluz”, was a festival of Andalusia cuisine offered by Restaurante El Crujiente of Seville. Delicious Jabugo Ham, chilled Manzanilla Sherry and Andalusia inspired dishes delighted visitors and friends.
In 2010, the III edition “Morriña Gallega” took us to the north of Spain, accompanied by the restaurant of the Hotel Casa Grande de Fervenza, Lugo. Slow cooked hake or capon were amongst the delicious protagonists.
The IV edition in 2012 “Cocinando Por el Norte by Steven & Alex” was very special for us as Steven Cortinas came to Cuenca and his home, the Posada de San José. With his companion and friend Alejandro Mendez, the menu travelled from the Posada de San José to the Luis Irizar Culinary School in San Sebastian, where they both studied their culinary vocation, and on to the Os Cachivaches Restaurant in Lugo where they worked together. Excellent fare and ambiance in the kitchen.
In the coming years the Posada de San José will continue to celebrate these Festivals, bringing to Cuenca professional chefs and their establishments with the best culinary specialties of Spain´s rich gastronomy.
